This
site advocates the following definition of Chlois:
A
blend of Chloe and Lois that refers to the character Chloe Sullivan,
played by Allison Mack, in the TV series Smallville. The word
Chlois originated with a group of Smallville's online community of
viewers and is an off-screen, not on-screen nickname for Chloe. Chlois
alludes to two main aspects of Chloe's character. The first is
factual: her Lois Lane-like nature, which was established in the first
episode of the series and has its origins in the pre-series planning.
The second is speculative as of this writing: that, in a Smallville
what's-in-a-name twist on the usual Lois Lane role in the story, Chloe
Sullivan is both (i) the Daily Planet reporter character and
(ii) the Ultimate Romance destiny of Clark Kent aka Superman.
Key to
understanding Chlois is that it's a somewhat different issue than
whether or not Chloe ever becomes Lois Lane in name. An increasing
number of Chloisers advocate that she not ever permanently
adopt the pen
name Lois Lane, as Chloe once did for a Daily Planet story that she
handed in in the
season 3 episode "Delete". They'd prefer she
remain Chloe Sullivan, making Smallville strictly a "What's in a
name?" twist on the story. Other Chlois
supporters, however, advocate that Chloe should eventually become known
as Lois Lane in name as well, either via the pen name route or one of
several other possibilities that exist.
Also,
Chlois supporters are fully aware of the introduction of Chloe's cousin
Lois Lane, played by Erica Durance, in Smallville's season 4 premiere.
In fact that introduction, and the characterization of Durance's Lois
since then, has only served to increase speculation about Chlois and
support for it. Many view the Durance character as an extension of
the Chlois twist on the story, a red herring character of sorts who will
ultimately be revealed to have some different destiny, perhaps a very
useful one for the series and indeed Warner Bros., in the Smallville
version of the story.
